Production Operator:
Bindery Finisher, Digital Press and Large Format Operator

JOB SUMMARY: A Production Operator is responsible for assisting in all facets of production, including but not limited to bindery finishing, digital press printing and large format printing. As a member of the Production Team, you are accountable for meeting the department production and quality goals, as well as playing a key role in meeting company-wide profitability and customer satisfaction goals.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Equipment-specific training will be provided.

Bindery Finisher

Summary:  Perform bindery finishing on jobs using folder, booklet maker / stitcher, spiral binders, die cutter, laminator, drill, shrink-wrap and miscellaneous other equipment. Assist in sorting, bagging and traying direct mail for delivery to Post Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Setup, operate, and maintain duplicating jobs using folder, booklet maker / stitcher, spiral binders, die cutter, drill, laminator, wide format printer, poster trimming, shrink-wrap and miscellaneous other equipment.
  • Assist in direct mail duties, including sorting, bagging and traying.
  • Make deliveries in company van, if appointed by management.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with the Owners, Managers, the Customer Service Team and the Production Team, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that both sales and customer objectives are met.
  • Coordinate with the Production Team to prioritize jobs, and when necessary reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates. Complete projects accurately within deadlines, while meeting company quality standards

Digital Press and Large Format Operator

Digital Press Summary: Produce complete specialized copy projects in compliance with job specifications and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures.

Large Format Summary: Print, trim, and/or laminate large format printing jobs in compliance with job specifications and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the digital presses and/or large format printers in accordance with equipment operating procedures, to produce complete customized work orders.
  • Interface with the Customer Service Representative, Designer and/or the customer to ensure a complete understanding of the print order. Receive and output digital files for use in completion of work order.
  • Perform all operator functions as noted on the work order.
  • Prepare proof copy of completed document and obtain Customer Service Representative, Designer and/or customer approval as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with the Owners, Managers, the Customer Service Team and the Production Team, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that both sales and customer objectives are met.
  • Coordinate with the Production Team to produce and prioritize jobs, and when necessary reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates. Complete projects accurately within deadlines, while meeting company quality standards.
  • Maintain equipment, using the standards and regulations set by management.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Strong computer skills, and familiarity with handling digital files
  • Strong trouble shooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good mathematical skills
  • Will train as needed

Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Ability to promote and follow policy and procedures
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to their supervisor

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Periodic overtime.
  • Fast-paced environment; subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
